Mid July each year, Gourdon hosts this prestigious wine event. An ensemble of wine producers from France’s many renowned regions gather to showcase the fruits of their labours to the many visitors that come to view, sip, discuss and purchase.
In past years we have had the pleasure to meet and accommodate several of these vignerons from the diverse wine-producing regions of France. Last year in particular, Joël et Joëlle Brun.
This delightful couple from the Jurançon wine region of Occitanie (midi-pyrénées) have harnessed both experience and oenological skill to make Domaine de Sarros white wines a truly stunning delicacy from their BIO certified estate. Such generously passionate wine producers they are, we were spoilt to be given a bottle of ‘Le saunéy de Jo’ (le rêve de Jo) – an incredible sweet wine that conjured forth heady tropical fruits (guava, passion fruit, mango) with intense clarity upon the palate without heavy sugar residual. It was to our loss that this marvellous cêpage was sold out at the time of their visit. However, we managed to procure some bottles of their superb dry ‘Plaser dou Pay’ (the pleasure of papa ~ taken from the ancient Occitan language). Our Summer pleasure indeed it is, with a deep golden hue, nuances of crushed hay, grass and citrus finishing with a long tang that drifts into the ether. They certainly possess the Midas touch and should you be fortunate to see these wines – buy without moderation(!)
