As October unravels itself upon the fading shadows of a balmy and very warm September, the valley and countryside that surround us begin to bathe in hues of red, gold and henna.
Dazzling sun breaks from behind misty blue hillsides and lights the network of seed heads upon flowers and dew-covered webs. The year of growth is drawing to its close and gradually moving to its bed!
This year we have seen very high winds as early as February, felling several trees. A chartreuse of fabulous Springtime leaves reduced to withered, limp rags following severe frost to then burst through once again in mid June. Searing heat followed within days by one of the coldest weeks in July we have known. A Bizarre rollercoaster of temperatures.
Not only a long and exhausting year for we two, but a frustrating and perhaps disastrous year for many of our fellow vignerons !
We look toward 2018 after our ‘hibernation’ with renewed hopes for our environment and all who dwell in it.
We thank all of our customers who have visited, slept, dined and enjoyed all that la Métairie des Songes offers and wish you a peaceful Winter.
